About

Hello my name is Ian Hemingway. I have taught secondary school mathematics in the Winchester area for the last 12 years. “An outstanding teacher of mathematics” – Ofsted.

Even if mathematics is not your son or daughter’s favourite subject, I can help students develop a love for mathematics as they learn to reach or even exceed their potential.

To do this, we start by assessing their needs and aspirations, and then develop a set of lessons to help them achieve this. Always we have a good rapport and lessons are enjoyable. Topics are linked to real-life situations, which makes it interesting. We build on student’s prior knowledge and use physical resources to break down complex problems into simpler components.

Some concepts can be rather abstract, and we can use IT packages as necessary to help visualization.

Teaching in large classes by its nature has to be aimed at the majority, and having left the classroom, I find it is very satisfying as a teacher to be able to spend concentrated one-on-one time with individual students.

You would be surprised how much progress any student can make with individual attention by an experienced mathematics teacher.

At the end of the day, your son or daughter will have fun and be much more confident with mathematics.
